Central Asian Polychrome Wooden Head, 18th–19th Century (Attributed)
Central Asian Polychrome Wooden Head, 18th–19th Century (Attributed)
This atmospheric carved wooden head, adorned with a tall conical headdress and traces of polychrome in blue, red, black, and green lacquer, likely dates to the 18th or 19th century. The underside bears a tamga-like symbol, associated with nomadic Central Asian cultures. While its design echoes Mongol iconography, the age is not scientifically verified.
In "Genghis Khan: The Exhibition" (Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, 2018), sculpted heads with similar forms were linked to Mongol nobility, suggested as 14th-century. However, this piece’s age remains unconfirmed.
A bold and captivating object, it brings historic charm and conversation to any interior or collection.
This piece works particularly well as a decorative object in contemporary interiors, offering strong visual presence and material depth.
