Large Antique Indo Persian Brass Hunting Tray Mughal Revival
Large Antique Indo Persian Brass Hunting Tray Mughal Revival
A substantial late 19th to early 20th century Indo-Persian brass tray, richly hand chased with scrolling floral ornament, Persianate hunting hounds, stylised courtly figures and dense punch-work decoration throughout.
Likely produced in North-West India Punjab region during the late colonial period, the tray draws heavily upon Mughal Revival and Persian hunting imagery traditions. The repeating Tazi or Saluki-type hunting dogs, floral arabesques and seated figures reflect the blending of Indo-Islamic and regional Indian decorative vocabulary characteristic of Northern Indian metalwork of the period.
The tray possesses a strong shallow dome to the centre, a traditional structural form which both strengthens the large brass surface and enhances the reflective qualities of the engraved decoration. The extensive hand tooling, dark oxidised recesses and naturally worn patina give the piece strong visual depth and character.
An impressive decorative object suitable for wall display, tabletop use or maximalist interior settings.
