Large Hand Engraved Persian Brass Tray Tree of Life Figural Panels c.1900–1930
Large Hand Engraved Persian Brass Tray Tree of Life Figural Panels c.1900–1930
A substantial and finely hand-engraved Persian brass tray, richly decorated in the Qajar tradition with an intricate arrangement of figural, animal and floral motifs. At the centre, a stylised Tree of Life rises through a densely worked ground of flowers and foliage, inhabited by deer, birds and other creatures rendered in a rhythmic, ornamental style. This central composition is enclosed by multiple concentric bands, including medallions depicting seated figures and equestrian scenes, alongside continuous scrolling Arabic script forming a decorative border. The engraving is entirely executed by hand, with subtle irregularities in line and detail that give the surface a lively and authentic character. The deeply scalloped rim frames the composition and enhances its visual presence. The reverse retains a hanging loop, indicating its intended use as a decorative wall charger. Dating to the late Qajar to early Pahlavi period, this is a striking example of Persian decorative metalwork adapted for interior display.
