Large Indian Brass Hookah Floor Candelabrum 152cm, black lac-filled engraving
Large Indian Brass Hookah Floor Candelabrum 152cm, black lac-filled engraving
A large and highly decorative Indian brass floor-standing hookah, complete with integrated candle branches.
This is a substantial mid-20th century piece, likely produced in North India (Moradabad region) for export. The form follows a traditional Indian hookah base, and this example retains its internal wooden liner, indicating it was originally intended for smoking use, although it is now missing the external hose.
The surface is richly hand-engraved and filled with black lac, creating strong visual contrast across the body. The construction is sectional, with multiple threaded components allowing it to be dismantled for transport.
The upper section features a central bowl with four scrolling candle arms, combining functional hookah form with decorative candelabrum design—typical of export pieces aimed at Middle Eastern and European markets.
Stamped markings include:
Made in India
Patent by Govt of India
Number 126923
Crossed swords motif
These marks are typical of mid-20th century Indian export brassware and are not linked to a traceable registered patent.
A striking and unusual large-scale interior piece with both functional origins and strong decorative presence.
